As a child, he was fascinated by the work of his grandmother, now 90, who designed and wove carpets, mixed paint, and worked with clay and wool.

He could also spend hours gazing out over the desert, completely absorbed in the play of light and shadow that ensured the endless plain never looked the same.

In 1988, Kito interrupted his studies in literature and philosophy to travel to Moscow with a scholarship, where he obtained a master’s degree in monumental and decorative art from the Stroganov Academy in 1994. In his thesis on sophism, he juxtaposed mosaic-carved dancing bodies against a mosque, touching on an important taboo and laying the foundation for his future work, in which touching upon and breaking taboos becomes a recurring theme.

In his thesis on sophism, he juxtaposed mosaic-carved dancing bodies against a mosque, touching on an important taboo and laying the foundation for his future work, in which touching upon and breaking taboos becomes a recurring theme.

Since 2000, he has settled in Belgium, creating artworks in various disciplines, from painting to mosaic and stained glass, graffiti, and installations.

Kito has been immersed in three very different civilizations: Mesopotamia, the communist Soviet empire, and finally Europe. His works now take on a strong philosophical and archaeological character. He is driven by existential questions.

He raises questions and does not wait for answers, neither from himself nor from others. Doubt, interpretation, dilemma, and uncertainty characterize his world and art.

In this quest, he explores the recurring forms in our material world as well as in our realm of thought. He enjoys playing with double interpretations of the same forms. A naked woman in a bent posture can also be a fruit bowl, a discarded scrap turns into a bird from a distance, a praying man with prayer beads takes the shape of a key, and Don Quixote, a very inspiring figure for Kito, turns out to be a waving flag.

He always tries to approach reality from different perspectives to distill a universal form from it, both in material and idea.
